Out with a Whimper?

The VRA was disappointed that VicRoads disappeared quietly and then the headquarters in Kew were about to disappear without past achievements being adequately acknowledged. Read the letter that the committee wrote to the Minister: Letter to the Minister

We received a response to this plea and an event is now being planned to acknowledge the 64 years that HQ was located at 60 Denmark Street, Kew. Further details will be announced when they become available.

Mobile Phones

The Victorian Government is going to introduce roadside cameras to catch people using their phones while driving. Here is a video that John Nation discovered which shows why this is a good idea.

Who are we and what were we doing?

It is thought that this photograph was taken in 1970 – in which case it would have been a training course rather than an induction.  It may have been a road design training course under the management of Andrew Noble and Bob Billinge. We would like to find the missing names and confirmation of the  course. It was obviously taken in the theatrette at Head Office in Kew. Can anyone enlighten us? (Click on photo to make it larger.)

1949 Seaside Holiday

A motoring holiday along some of Victoria’s most beautiful coast roads, introducing some of the scenic beauties to be found along the highways which skirt the ocean beaches of this State.

‘Seaside Holiday’ was filmed in 1949 by The Country Roads Board, and is now a part of the ACMI collection where it’s recently been restored.

It’s a great piece of nostalgia, and features great fashions, great cars, and some not so great driving!

You’ll also see some of our most notable coastal formations including the 12 Apostles and London Bridge before nature stepped in to change things around.
