Road Safety and Traffic Authority
The first road safety group in Australia was formed in 1927 – the National Safety Council – under the auspices of the National Roads Association of Australia and the RACV.
In 1956 of a three-member Traffic Commission to control traffic and improve road safety throughout Victoria. Jack Thorpe was the member from the CRB and the other two were from the MMBW and the Police Department.
The Road Safety and Traffic Authority (RoSTA) was established in 1971 to replace the Traffic Commission, as a response to the horrendous road toll.
RoSTA was originally accommodated in the CRB’s HO in Kew, then moved to bigger accommodation in Hawthorn.
